In 1930, Dr. Zin demonstrated that an injection of chlorophyll increased the red blood cell count in animals with normal hemoglobin levels.
Scientists such as Hughs and Lather from the University of Liverpool went further in 1936. They induced anemia in animals by daily blood sampling to bring their hemoglobin levels to half of normal and divided them into three groups: the first as controls, the second fed with raw or crude chlorophyll, and the third supplemented with synthetic chlorophyll.
