Wild black pepper from organic farming

Voatsiperifery black pepper is THE iconic pepper of Madagascar. In Malagasy, "voa" means fruit, while "tsiperifery" refers to the vine. Piper borbonense, the family from which this pepper originates. It is particularly aromatic and mildly spicy. Its aromas are quite unique: floral and woody, lingering on the palate, they give way to a more fruity freshness.

You can use it whole, infused, or ground; it pairs very well with sweet and savory dishes, especially those with honey. It adds character to your sauces and steamed vegetables, can be used as a topping, and brings warmth to your salads. With its mild spiciness, it enhances a fruit salad or a chocolate preparation. Try it and let yourself be carried away on a flavorful journey with surprising aromas...

Black Ethics, quality, and social development

This small berry develops in the sun, at the top of vines that can reach up to 20m high! This is what makes its harvest perilous and therefore precious. This black pepper is wild, it is hand-picked in its natural environment and then dried for preservation and to concentrate all its aromas.

Floribis is working to structure the industry with professional pickers: fair compensation, appropriate equipment for picking to limit accidents, no more tree felling to reduce deforestation and allow pickers to collect from these trees year after year. Indeed, since the vines climb very high, most pickers prefer to cut down the trees to easily harvest the pepper and sell the wood for charcoal. But this process is absolutely not sustainable !

Exclusive: The R&D department of Floribis is now the only one capable, after several years of research and development, of cultivating the "VoaTsiperifery" species. Successful tests were conducted in 2023 for cultivation to begin in 2024, with the first harvests from their plantations expected in 2025.

The virtues of pepper in general:

    • Digestive issues: Pepper stimulates the receptors on the taste buds on the tongue, which triggers the production of gastric juices in the stomach, including hydrochloric acid, that contribute to and improve the digestion of food. It also stimulates the production of digestive enzymes by the pancreas. As a result, there is a reduction in adverse effects such as nausea, bloating, flatulence, indigestion, or constipation.
Moreover, pepper contains piperine, which increases saliva production.

    • Antidepressant: Piperine in pepper stimulates the production of serotonin and endorphin in the brain. These molecules, known as "happiness molecules," regulate our sense of well-being, and their absence can lead to depression, fatigue, anxiety, or insomnia. While not a medication, pepper can contribute to the proper regulation of these neurotransmitters.

    • Aphrodisiac: Indeed, pepper was already mentioned in the Kamasutra as a sexual stimulant for men! Its active ingredient, piperine, stimulates blood flow throughout the body - including the penis - which can promote erections. Studies studies conducted on rats show an increase in libido in males fed with black pepper: all the effects come together to boost desire and enhance your lovemaking ;)

    • Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial: Pepper is traditionally used in holistic alternative medicine to counter the discomforts of arthritis, as well as to soothe coughs and colds. It decongests and disinfects.

    • Support for taking medication: it has been shown that piperine affects the intestinal wall and increases its absorption capacity. Thus, the bioavailability of medications (both natural and synthetic) is higher, and therefore their effectiveness is enhanced.

    • Amplify its effects with turmeric! It's the ideal combo to fight against inflammation, pain, bacteria, and infections. Pepper increases the absorption of curcumin by the body and works in synergy to reveal the potential of these two spices with excellent nutritional virtues.
