Açaí is a small berry with purple pulp, the fruit of an Amazonian palm tree nicknamed "the tree of life" that can grow up to 20 meters tall.
Also known as "pinot palm," its fruit has been consumed locally for millennia, especially in Brazil, where it often accompanies fish and cassava. However, it was mainly in the 1990s that the surfing community made this small berry popular by incorporating it into smoothies for its restorative and nutritional properties.
Indeed, very rich in polyphenols and iron, this fruit is a perfect ally against fatigue.
The freeze-dried açaí we offer here is, to our knowledge, the purest and most concentrated on the market, and the subtle flavor of the fresh fruit is perfectly preserved.
Its flavor is subtle and sweet, somewhat reminiscent of cocoa or hazelnut…
💜 How are Açaí berries harvested?
Our partner Natural Andes has created a truly innovative and ethical supply chain around the açaí berry:
Hand-harvested, these berries, exceptionally rich in antioxidants, come from wild trees located deep in a protected reserve forest.
During the harvest season, the men of the community venture into the forest to pick the açaí berries. With agility and expertise, they climb the trees using ropes to reach the fronds, which they gently slide to the ground. This traditional method allows the berries to be harvested without damage, thus preserving their exceptional quality.
Fifty producer families, members of the community, make a living from this activity.
> For your information: It takes 1.8 kg of açaí berries to produce 1 liter of pulp, which is used to obtain 100 grams of powder.
💜 How is açaí powder made?
Once the berries are harvested, they are brought back to the village where the women take over. In a community workshop, they transform the berries into pulp immediately after harvest, which they then store at low temperatures to preserve all its nutrients. The pulp is then transported to Santa Cruz where it is freeze-dried, a vacuum and low-temperature dehydration process (less than 25°C) that preserves 95% of its nutritional values and allows for long-term storage.
Some manufacturing details: the açaí berries are first depulped. To lock in its nutritional and organoleptic qualities, the açaí pulp is then frozen and placed in a tank that will be vacuumed to a pressure of 1-2 bar (vs 1000 bar for ambient air) while remaining at room temperature (20-25°C). It is the vacuum process that extracts the water molecules present in the pulp. Once this process is complete, the pulp has become powder! Which can be preserved for life, or almost! (For the anecdote, this is the food consumed by astronauts in space!).
There is therefore no pasteurization or other heating process. Upon exiting the tank, the powder is bagged in doypacks and sealed with heat sealing.

💜 How to use açaí powder?
You can enjoy it as is, diluted in water or plant-based milk, but also incorporated into many preparations: drinks (mixed in a vegetable or fruit juice), sorbets (like the famous "açaí bowl"), desserts (added to a compote or yogurt), mueslis, milkshakes, smoothies, sauces (used in a vinaigrette or pesto) or sprinkled on a dish, like a spice. We recommend 2 to 4 teaspoons per day, to be diluted in a glass of water or incorporated into your drinks or culinary preparations (count 6 g per preparation for 1 person). As an occasional cure or daily intake according to your needs.

💜 Rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and fiber, açaí is an ideal ally to boost your vitality and improve your endurance.
Its purple color is due to the presence of anthocyanin (385 mg/100g).The açaí berry also has the ability to promote nutrient absorption, toxin expulsion, and above all, it possesses antioxidant properties linked to the presence of anthocyanin, this purple pigment also found (but in much smaller quantities...) in blueberries and red cabbage.
This berry is very rich in fatty acids (32% lipids), so it spoils quickly, which is why it is generally sold frozen or in powder form.

NATURAL ANDES
This project first emerged from the meeting of Maxime Chiquet with the people of Bolivia, with whom he lived for over 5 years. During his travels, he met small producers who still work in an artisanal way and respect traditions. Their story touched him, particularly seeing that they are no longer valued in favor of industrializing productions.
Then from the meeting with Jhomaira Vera, his wife, with whom he decided to create Natural Andes to value Life, Earth, and Humanity. Their commitment is based on preserving the values of Humanity respectful of its land, Pachamama (Mother Earth). Authentic Bolivian culture is respectful of the Earth, but industrialization threatens the nobility of sustainable ancestral practices, which preserve the future and economic security of producers.
Their raison d'être: authenticity. Their action: 100% organic endemic products sourced from supply chains leaving a positive impact on their production land.
Beyond organic and fair trade, their commitment to producers is established at 3 levels:
- Sustainability of production activities.
- Economic security for the local population.
- More homogeneous wealth distribution.
The search for Authentic Terroir: it is about preserving Humanity and its Earth.
