Plastic neutrality: Biovie's civic commitment

Since the founding of Biovie in 2007, we have been committed to maintaining the lowest possible environmental and carbon footprint by carefully managing the resources we use, whether they are renewable or not. We focus on using plastic only when there is no other alternative, whether it be for manufacturing, storage, packaging, protection, or shipping. Thus:

  • If we resort to using plastic, we aim to have the highest quality material available., not emitting endocrine disruptors, microplastics, or nanoplastics, like the HDPE (high-density polyethylene) of our bag in box of seawater : it is the safest, the most expensive.

  • We replace plastic with another material as soon as a technical solution exists., such as the now compostable packaging of our fresh coconuts.

  • We work with technologically advanced French manufacturers such as Futuramat. to manufacture without any plastic our Easygreen Sol automatic sprouters in France from 100% bio-based material made from fermented sugarcane fibers, 0% plastic.

To further our conscious approach, we have taken an additional step, and thus, we are proud to announce our commitment to plastic neutrality.

This initiative aims to fully offset the amount of plastic we put on the market starting in 2025 by commissioning Corsair to remove an equivalent amount of plastic waste from the environment and transform it into new virgin material through pyrolysis.

This action is carried out through the purchase of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) plastic credits. These credits are instantly withdrawn from the market, symbolizing our action. We will order this service every year from 2025 onwards.

The severity of plastic pollution

Since 1950, international chemical production has increased fiftyfold! Plastic ranks at the top of these products:

Each year, global plastic production reaches approximately 400 million tons, which is more than the total weight of all humans on Earth.

The WWF has estimated that each human ingests 5 grams of plastic per week (the equivalent of a credit card).

Unfortunately, despite the goodwill of citizens to sort waste into special bins, in reality, only 10% of this plastic is mechanically recycled due to a lack of recycling infrastructure. The rest pollutes our lands and oceans, with a large portion of the plastic being buried (as in Bangkok) or burned.

The environmental impact of this poor management is considerable, and this accumulation severely threatens terrestrial and marine ecosystems, endangering biodiversity and human health. Governments are trying to regulate single-use plastics (plastic cups, plastic bags, plastic bottles, product packaging...), but the consumption of single-use plastics varies greatly depending on the country, and many emerging countries have not yet regulated its production. Therefore, there are significant gaps in plastic recycling.

But what happens to the 90% of plastic that is not recycled?

He is either burned or buried. Landfilling and combustion have major disadvantages for the environment and human health. Landfilling leads to soil and groundwater pollution because plastics take hundreds of years to decompose and release harmful substances.

Regarding the combustion of these fossil fuels (because ultimately we consider them as fuels when we use them to power cement plants, for example), although it seems to offer a quick solution to managing plastic waste, it emits atmospheric chemical pollution and toxic substances that can durably affect air quality and pose significant health risks to populations.

On the other hand, Pyrolysis is emerging as an innovative and promising method for treating plastics without generating toxic substances.. This thermal process breaks down materials at high temperatures in the absence of oxygen, producing oils, gases, and char, while minimizing harmful emissions.

Thus, pyrolysis not only contributes to the sustainable management of plastic waste but also allows for the recovery of valuable resources, offering a viable alternative to landfilling and incineration. It shifts from extraction to a virtuous life cycle like the recycling of glass, paper, or metal.

Our approach towards plastic neutrality

Plastic offsetting by companies is currently only mandatory in the Philippines. It is a strategy advocated by the UN and the World Bank. All companies can participate on a voluntary basis in this initiative, which will, in any case, become mandatory in the near future. In 2025, we have acquired a plastic neutrality package. This partnership allows us to use the "Plastic Neutrality" logo on our products, publicly attesting to our ecological commitment:

By choosing our products, which will gradually all carry the CSR logo, you are opting for virtuous compensation programs for plastic management, but you can also get personally involved as we explain further below.

The industrial company Corsair is the first industrial entity in the world to commit to the effective removal of plastic waste from the environment for recycling into virgin material. Thanks to pyrolysis technology, Corsair transforms this waste into certified oil, used to produce new plastic objects. It is a major innovative environmental action that truly reduces plastic pollution.. It is also a major shift in consciousness: waste is transformed into a resource. This innovative process promotes a circular economy and reduces dependence on fossil resources.

The involvement of individuals

We conducted an interview with Jussi Veikko Saloranta, the CEO of Corsair, during the visit to the world's first plastic pyrolysis plant. This plant is located on a massive plastic landfill in Bangkok.

Jussi explained to us that he chose to rely on a community of people to create a plastic credit reserve rather than investors. Although this unusual collaborative initiative in industrial circles initially aroused suspicion among his partners, it proved to be extremely virtuous because More than 100,000 people worldwide have joined Amplivo., the subsidiary of Corsair, by purchasing plastic neutrality packs to voluntarily collaborate in the collection of plastics.

We encourage individuals to participate in this paid collective effort; we have done so ourselves alongside our professional commitments.

Indeed, through Amplivo, the commercial branch of Corsair, you can purchase a plastic neutrality pack., thus personally contributing from your home to the concrete removal of plastic waste from the environment.

In return, you will receive CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) plastic credits (€1 = 10 CSR), traceable digital assets certifying your contribution. These credits represent a growing economic potential., particularly as companies and businesses increasingly seek to offset their plastic footprint with the tightening of regulations.

As it happens with carbon credit.

By storing them, you will be able to sell these credits in the future to companies wishing to achieve their sustainability goals. It is a civic act, and also a bet on the future.

Indeed, to effectively and massively eliminate plastic from our environment, it is essential to develop an attractive economic model for all the stakeholders involved.

Amplivo's innovative model is based on a responsible approach: it generates concrete economic benefits for each participant and also meets the expectations of large international companies, which are now encouraged (though not yet legally required, but this is expected to change) to financially offset their plastic footprint under the increasing pressure of environmental regulations and policies.

This economic mechanism constitutes the essential lever allowing to transform an undesirable waste into a sought-after and valued resource. The more of us who commit to this dynamic, the more effectively we will be able to remove significant amounts of plastics.

The advantages of this initiative

  • Reduction of pollution : By actively removing plastic from the environment, we contribute to the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity.
  • Circular economy The transformation of plastic waste into new products reduces dependence on virgin resources and limits CO2 emissions.
  • Economic opportunities : CSR plastic credits offer a new form of asset for individuals and businesses, promoting a green and sustainable economy.

We are convinced that every action counts. By collaborating with Amplivo and Corsair and supporting this initiative, we are taking a concrete step towards a cleaner and more responsible future.

We invite all our clients and partners to join this movement to collectively amplify the positive impact on our planet. We also invite all our suppliers to achieve their own plastic neutrality.
